Rights Respecting School Award

Curriculum News

From the start of this term, we have begun towards the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award. This is a nationally recognised award which supports our current school’s ethos to strengthen the children’s understanding of rights and respect for others.

“UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. Our Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.”

We will be using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as our guiding document.

The award is based on the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation for all. Schools who have been involved in the Award have reported a positive impact on relationships and well-being, leading to better learning and behaviour, improved academic standards and less bullying. These are the principles which we already strive towards for our children, and working within the award structure will allow us to recognise the children’s achievements in an explicit way.

We will keep you informed of our activities as always through newsletters, assemblies and exhibitions. In the meantime if you want to find out more about the award you can find information at: https://www.unicef.org.uk/rights-respecting-schools
