School curriculum

At St. Mary’s our curriculum holds Jesus firmly at the centre of both what we teach and how we teach. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on creativity for learning. We believe that education will provide the essential tools for learning and we value the principles of enabling every child to succeed as outlined in ‘Every Child Matters’.

What we teach and how we teach it allows the children to experience the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in writing, art, music, developing their self-confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally.

In order for our pupils to be able to achieve their full potential, we ensure that the curriculum is taught through good teaching and through carefully planned, well-structured units of work. Subjects are linked and contribute to the development of key skills and thinking skills.

Our curriculum is planned within the requirements of the National Curriculum. This is adapted to meet the needs and interests of our pupils.
