  • Covid 19 plan

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

As we continue to work to help the fight in the current pandemic further guidance has been released:

Please, therefore, follow these key principles:

    1. If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
    2. If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them.
    3. Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions.
    4. Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.
    5. Residential special schools, boarding schools and special settings continue to care for children wherever possible.

The full list of key workers is listed on the link below but it is only if required, I understand it is a huge worry for people financially but we must work together to help prevent further spread of the virus, if you believe you and your partner are on this list and have no alternative childcare arrangements then please fill out a key worker form, we will also need confirmation of employment either from your employer or some kind identification from your place of work with confirmation of shift patterns if applicable.

  • World Book Day / Week

    Wed 26 Feb 2020

This year it is WORLD BOOK DAY on Thursday 5th March 2020, in school we will celebrate on Friday the 6th to celebrate reading books, authors and illustrators. It is held in more than 100 countries around the world.

The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

World Book Day is celebrating 23 years. We will be celebrating this great event in a number of ways:

    • All week (2nd-6th March) children will be taking part in a sponsored read in school. The money raised will be spent on some new class reading books for school and improving our outdoor reading area.
    • On Friday, 6th March we will be celebrating World Book Day by asking children to come dressed as their favourite book character. There will be prizes for the most original costume in each class. (Please don’t go to any great expense for this, they can be homemade simple outfits.)
    • We will be having a whole school buddy storytime in the afternoon and children are invited to bring their favourite book and may bring a favourite teddy or doll in to join them for this; they will enjoy biscuits and juice whilst they listen to stories with their buddies who will read with them.
    • Later in the term we will have a book fair in school and I will confirm the date nearer the time.
    • We are still challenging our children (and staff) to “Get Caught Reading” somewhere unusual over the coming months. Think of somewhere unusual or interesting to read your favourite book and send us a photograph. The winners each week will go on the Wall of Fame in school and the winners each week will also win a small prize. Please email your photographs to:       reading@smrc.lancs.sch.uk

We are very much looking forward to these events and hope our children will too!
