Catholic Life and Mission

Catholic Life and Mission

At St Mary's, Christ is at the heart of our school community. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus and guided by Gospel values, we are committed to nurturing the whole child—spiritually, morally, academically, socially and emotionally—so that every pupil can flourish and fulfil their God-given potential.

Our vision, Believe, Achieve, Flourish, reflects our commitment to helping every child grow in faith, confidence and knowledge. We encourage our pupils to believe in themselves, in one another and in God's love; to achieve their very best in all aspects of school life; and to flourish as unique individuals, equipped to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Inspired by the example of Our Lady, St Mary, we recognise the value of service and encourage our pupils to live out this virtue through kindness, compassion and care for others. Through serving our school, parish and wider community, children learn how faith can be put into action in meaningful ways.

Our Catholic faith shapes every aspect of school life. Through prayer, worship, relationships and learning, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all members of our community are valued, respected and loved. We recognise that each person is created in the image and likeness of God, and we celebrate the rich diversity of our school family.

As a Catholic school, we are proud of our faith identity whilst warmly welcoming children and families from all backgrounds, cultures and faith traditions. We foster an understanding of different beliefs and worldviews, encouraging respect, dialogue and a commitment to the common good.

Christ at the Centre

Jesus Christ is the foundation of everything we do. His example guides our decisions, our relationships and the way we care for one another. We seek to live out our mission through acts of kindness, compassion, forgiveness and service, helping our children to become confident, caring and responsible members of society.

Through daily prayer, Celebration of the Word, liturgical worship, Masses and opportunities for reflection, pupils are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God and strengthen their understanding of what it means to live as disciples of Christ. These experiences help our children to believe in God's love, achieve their personal best and flourish within a faith-filled community.

Charitable Giving and Fundraising

Supporting others is an important part of our Catholic mission. Throughout the year, pupils, staff and families work together to raise money and awareness for a variety of local, national and international charities. Through fundraising events, collections and acts of service, our children learn the importance of solidarity, compassion and generosity.

We regularly support charities and organisations including:

  • CAFOD

  • Caritas Diocese of Salford initiatives

  • St Joseph's Penny

  • NSPCC

  • YoungMinds

  • Local food banks

  • Parish charitable projects

  • Community-based causes and environmental initiatives

Through the work of our Mission Team, Eco School Council and Laudato Si' Representatives, pupils are encouraged to respond to the needs of others and to care for God's creation. These experiences help children understand that through faith and action they can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others, both within their local community and across the wider world.

By supporting a range of charitable causes, our pupils learn to live out the Gospel values of compassion, service and social responsibility, becoming active citizens who are committed to building a more just and caring society.

Living Our Faith

Catholic Social Teaching is woven throughout school life and inspires our pupils to put their faith into action. We encourage children to recognise their responsibility to care for others, particularly those who are vulnerable or in need, and to become active stewards of God's creation.

Through the work of our Mission Team, Eco School Council and Laudato Si' Representatives, pupils take an active role in promoting faith, social justice and environmental responsibility throughout the school community. These leadership opportunities empower children to use their gifts and talents in service of others and the wider world.
