Sycamore Class is a particularly special year for the children of St Mary's, as it is the year they prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. These important milestones in their faith journey are special encounters with God and provide wonderful opportunities for celebration, reflection, and spiritual growth.
At St Mary's, we use Aileen Urquhart's I Belong First Holy Communion programme to support the children in preparing for these sacred sacraments. Through prayer, reflection, discussion, and shared learning, the children deepen their understanding of their faith and strengthen their relationship with Jesus.
The preparation programme consists of eleven sessions, each exploring a different theme:
Session 1: In the name of the Father
Session 2: Lord, have mercy
Session 3: Celebrating our rescue
Session 4: God helps me get it right
Session 5: Glory to God in the highest
Session 6: The way of the Lord
Session 7: Bread to offer
Session 8: Fruit of the vine
Session 9: Do this in memory of me
Session 10: Body of Christ
Session 11: To love and to serve
Our sacramental programme is led by Mr Wormleighton with the help of Father David. If you would like your child to be part of the next programme, they MUST have been baptised before enrolling.
