A note from Miss Halstead

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Class Page. We hope you find it helpful, informative and a lovely insight into life in Willow Class.

Willow Class marks the very beginning of our children’s journey at St Mary’s. We welcome children from the term after their third birthday, and they remain in Willow Class until the end of their Reception Year. During this important stage, we focus on nurturing strong foundations for learning that children will build on as they continue through school.

Our curriculum is carefully planned to provide a balance of short, focused adult-led inputs alongside rich opportunities for child-initiated play. Through this, children develop key skills across all areas of learning, including both the prime and specific areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We place a strong emphasis on fostering independence, resilience, curiosity and creativity, supporting children to become confident, motivated learners.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful outdoor environment, which the children access daily in all weathers. Outdoor learning is an integral part of our provision, supporting physical development, exploration and a love of the natural world.

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and believe that working together helps every child to thrive. Above all, we strive to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to flourish.

Please see the links above for further information and to support your child’s learning at home.
