Maths Key Instant Recall Facts

Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) are designed to help children develop rapid recall of essential maths facts, such as number bonds, times tables and key calculation facts. Instant recall means children can answer these facts quickly and accurately without having to work them out each time. This helps to build confidence, improves fluency and frees up brain space so children can focus on solving more complex mathematical problems. Please support your child by practising their KIRFs little and often – just 3–5 minutes, 4–5 times each week can make a huge difference. Use the help sheet to play quick-fire quizzes, ask questions during journeys, practise counting sequences or create simple games together. Regular, short practice is far more effective than occasional longer sessions. Children who know these facts securely are able to work more efficiently in maths lessons, develop stronger reasoning skills and become more confident mathematicians.

All KIRF help sheets for every year group and every half term are available on the Maths page of the school website, so if your child enjoys extra practice or would like to revisit previous learning, you are welcome to use these resources at home.
