Our Curriculum
Oak Class – Summer 2 Curriculum Overview
Welcome to our Summer 2 term in Oak Class. This half term our theme is “Sky Chasers” and we will be exploring a wide range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.
English
In English, we will be using the text Sky Chasers as inspiration for our writing. The children will develop their narrative writing skills by writing the next chapter in the style of the author. Year 6 pupils will also explore writing from different viewpoints. We will focus on developing vocabulary, dialogue, descriptive language and cohesive paragraphing to create engaging stories. In reading lessons, pupils will practise inference, summarising, performance poetry and discussing authors’ language choices.
Maths
This half term, children will focus on:

Units of Measure

Financial Understanding
Children will interpret and present data, convert between units of measure and apply mathematical skills to real-life money and budgeting situations to develop financial awareness and problem-solving skills.
Science
In Science, we will be finishing our Evolution and Inheritance unit and then moving onto.

Animals Including Humans
Children will explore Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, adaptation and fossils, as well as learning about the circulatory system, the heart, blood vessels and how lifestyle choices can affect the body.
Religious Education
In RE, we will continue our unit “To the Ends of the Earth” where children will learn about:

The Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Saints and discipleship

The Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary
Children will reflect on how Christians live out their faith and the importance of discipleship today. We will also be exploring other faiths such as Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.
History
We will finish our History unit that explores:
“What was the impact of World War 2 on the people of Britain?”
We will then move onto.
Geography
In Geography, pupils will complete a fieldwork enquiry where they will:

Create enquiry questions

Present findings digitally
This will help children develop important geographical fieldwork and investigation skills.
PE
In PE, children will take part in:

Athletics and rounders.
They will develop teamwork, coordination, speed, technique and leadership skills.
Computing-Video production
Children will learn how to create short videos by working in pairs or groups. As they progress through this unit, they will be exposed to topic-based language and develop the skills of capturing, editing, and manipulating video. Learners are guided with step-by-step support to take their idea from conception to completion. At the conclusion of the unit, children have the opportunity to reflect on and assess their progress in creating a video.
Spanish
In Spanish, our topic is “Eating Out.” Children will learn vocabulary and conversational phrases linked to food, drinks, restaurants and expressing preferences.
Art & Design / DT
In Design Technology, children will focus on food technology including:

Preparing wraps and pizzas

Microwave and oven cooking
Music
In Music, children will compose and perform their own Leavers’ Song. They will work collaboratively to write lyrics, create melodies and perform confidently as a class.
