At St. Mary’s R.C. primary School we are committed to working together with all members of our school community. We believe in achievement for all. We want all adults and children to participate in learning and we celebrate all members of our community. We strive to create an inclusive culture in our school and we aim to be responsive to the diversity of children’s backgrounds, interests, experience, knowledge and skills, so that all children regardless of individual need make the best possible progress.
We value high quality teaching for all learners and actively monitor teaching and learning in school. We aim to create a learning environment which is flexible enough to meet the needs of all members of our school community.
We monitor progress of all learners; adults continually assess, plan, do and review to ensure learning is taking place. Our whole school system for monitoring progress includes regular pupil progress meetings. Some of our pupils may require additional support so that they can access the curriculum and make progress at their own level. This is special educational provision under Section 21 of the Children and Families Act 2014.
Our Special Needs Provision
St. Mary's R.C. Primary School and Pre- School is committed to meeting the special educational needs of pupils and ensuring that they make progress. Our Catholic values and the 5ws ensure we provide a warm and welcoming environment for all our children, families, staff and visitors. We are caring and supportive, not just of one another, but of others in our society both close to home and across the World through our actions and by teaching them about love, forgiveness and kindness. We strive to act like Jesus would wherever we go and with whoever we are with. We do not just learn about our faith, we live out its principles in the way we treat each other and though other projects to ensure that we are acting out the Gospel values through our lives and becoming true missionary disciples. We currently have pupils with a variety of needs including hearing impairment, autism and other special educational needs. In line with our mission statement all the staff aim:
To promote children’s development by catering for their social, emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual and moral development.
To provide a broad and balanced curriculum having regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum.
To be aware of the needs of individual children, of their differing ages and abilities, and plan work accordingly.
To provide equal opportunities regardless of sex, race or culture.
To create a secure, attractive and happy environment, where children are respected as individuals and where pupils are encouraged to respect others and their environment.
To promote links with the community, with outside agencies, industry, local people and neighbouring schools.
To encourage parental involvement in the educational process and to offer opportunities for parents to become involved in the life of the school.
We recognise that every teacher is a teacher of every child or person including those with SEN.
